MY OJT EXPERIENCE IN DEWISE

My On-the-Job Training experience at Dewise Solutions Philippines Inc. was one of the most valuable parts of my academic journey. As a Software Engineer Intern, I was able to apply what I learned in school to actual industry work, while also discovering tools, workflows, and technologies that I had not encountered before. From the start, I knew this would be more than just a training requirement—it would be a chance to grow both personally and professionally.

During my 300-hour internship, I worked with different frameworks and platforms such as WordPress, HUGO, Docker, GitHub Actions, Microsoft 365, HubSpot CRM, Polylang, JavaScript, and TypeScript. I was assigned under the Software Development Team, where I gained hands-on experience in website development, migration, testing, and task coordination. One of my major contributions was helping with the full migration of a website to WordPress, along with adding features and improving the overall functionality of the project.

What made my OJT experience even more meaningful was the culture at Dewise. The company is built on collaboration, continuous learning, and respect, which created an environment where I felt supported as an intern. I appreciated how the team welcomed me, guided me through Knowledge Transfer sessions, and gave me opportunities to learn through actual tasks and regular check-ins. Even as a solo trainee, I never felt isolated because the people around me were approachable, helpful, and encouraging.

My daily routine during the internship helped me develop discipline and time management. I usually started my day by logging into Microsoft Teams, checking my calendar and Outlook, reviewing tasks on Loop, and then spending the rest of the day working on assigned work. At the end of each day, I updated my tracker in Excel and Teams to document my progress. This simple routine taught me the importance of organization, consistency, and accountability in a professional setting.

Through this experience, I strengthened my communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, collaboration skills, and time management. I also became more confident in learning unfamiliar technologies. At first, I found it challenging to work with new frameworks and programming languages, but my solid Computer Science fundamentals helped me adapt quickly. I realized that being a fast learner and having strong foundations are essential when entering the real world of software development.

One of the best parts of my OJT was working with talented people who inspired me to improve myself. Their professionalism and technical skills motivated me to raise my standards and become better at what I do. I also enjoyed the unique culture at Dewise, where even the CEO is addressed by name, reflecting the company’s open and inclusive environment. That experience made me value not just technical growth, but also the importance of workplace culture and human connection.

Overall, my OJT at Dewise was a rewarding experience that helped me transition from student to future professional. It taught me that real growth happens when knowledge is applied, challenges are embraced, and learning continues beyond the classroom. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of Dewise and for the lessons I gained from this meaningful journey.
